Resource-Conserving Treatment of Process Water at AAO Steel A/S
AAO Steel A/S, a metal processing company in Horsens, specializes in deep drawing, pressing, and cold forming. Since its establishment in 1924, the company has maintained a strong presence in the industry and currently employs 500 people.
For many years, AAO Steel A/S has managed large volumes of process water from their alkaline washing line but wanted to find a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.
AAO Steel A/S Challenge
AAO Steel A/S disposes of 1,200 m³ of process water annually from an alkaline washing line. Until 2009, the company incurred annual costs of DKK 720,000 for external disposal of the process water. Additionally, there were expenses for softened water. The company wanted to find a solution that could reduce these costs while also optimizing water consumption.
ENVOTHERMs Solution
ENVOTHERM delivered an ET350 wastewater treatment system that concentrates the process water so that only 5% of the water needs to be disposed of. The remaining 95% is distilled into water of such high quality that it can be directly reused in production. The oil content in the water is below 10 ppm, and the conductivity is under 40 μS/cm, ensuring a high quality of the recycled water. The investment in the ET350 system was paid back in less than 2 years, resulting in significant savings for AAO Steel A/S on both disposal and water consumption.
