WASTEWATER FROM COOLANTS AND EMULSIONS
Efficient and environmentally friendly handling of coolants at Hans Schmidt GmbH
Hans Schmidt Altöl- und Abfallverwertung GmbH, located in Fürth, Germany, is a medium-sized family-owned collection facility with 200 employees. The company specializes in the pickup and treatment of environmentally hazardous industrial wastewater from across Germany using 75 tanker trucks.

Hans Schmidt GmbH Challenge
Hans Schmidt receives 12,500 m³ of used coolants, emulsions, and other industrial wastewater annually, which until now has been disposed of through external service providers. This process resulted in annual costs of EUR 625,000 until 2008.
ENVOTHERMs Solution
ENVOTHERM delivered an ET2500 wastewater treatment plant that concentrates the emulsions and separates the water from the concentrate. As a result, 90-93% of the distilled water can be discharged into the public recipient, while the remaining 7-10% concentrate contains 40-60% oil and can be reused by cement factories. The distillate has an oil content of <10 ppm, which is less than half of the current discharge limits.
ENVOTHERM’s patented absorber reduces the COD value of the distillate, which means no additional discharge fees are imposed by the authorities.
This solution enabled Hans Schmidt GmbH to reuse significant amounts of waste and significantly reduce their emissions, while achieving a payback on their investment in just 6 months.
